シバサシ。
屋敷の四隅に差して、悪いものを入れないようにすると言われています。時期は旧盆が終わって、旧暦8月初め。ススキと桑で作ります。
今年も、ご近所さんが作って持ってきてくれました。「近頃の若いもんは、こんなの作らんし、知らないやつも多い！」…と、お怒りでした。
「店の前に差して、見せてやりなさい。観光客にも説明してあげなさい。」…と、2本置いていってくれました。
いつも、いつも、ありがたい。地域の文化、風習、伝統は絶えさせてはいけません。
Shibasashi.
This is a traditional Okinawan custom where bundles of pampas grass and mulberry are placed at the four corners of a home to keep away evil spirits. It is done in early lunar August, after the Okinawan Bon season ends.
This year, a neighbor made some and brought them to us — though not without a word of concern: “Young people these days don’t make these anymore, and a lot of them don’t even know what they are!”
They left two bundles for us, saying, “Put them out in front of the shop so people can see. And tell the tourists about them too.”
We are always so grateful. The culture, customs, and traditions of this community must not be forgotten.
